Chinese New Year (CNY) aka lunar new
year is one of the most celebrated
festivals in Hong Kong. The first 3
days of first month in lunar
calendar are public holidays. For
the year it falls on 23 January on
the regular calendar. In the Chinese
zodiac cycle this will be the year
of the Tiger. For it is on the
3 Feb and it will be the year of
Rabbit.
The
Cathay Pacific International Chinese
New Year Night Parade is one of the
best-loved events of the entire
Chinese New Year celebrations!
Radiating the theme of World City.
World Party. - the parade features
illuminated floats accompanied by
spectacular international and local
performing groups. There’s a
carnival atmosphere as festive
crowds lining the route around Tsim
Sha Tsui watch the colourful parade
pass by with Victoria Harbour
serving as a stunning backdrop to
this magical evening. The parade
starts at the Hong Kong Cultural
Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui and
proceeds along Canton Road, Haiphong
Road, Nathan Road and Salisbury
Road, and ends outside Sheraton Hong
Kong Hotel and Towers.
During
these 15 days of the Chinese New
Year one will see superstitious or
traditional cultural beliefs with
meanings which can be puzzling in
the eyes of those who do not
celebrate this occasion. There is a
customary reason that explains why
everything, not just limited to
decorations, are centered on the
colour red. At times, gold is the
accompanying colour for reasons that
are already obvious. One best and
common example is the red
diamond-shaped posters
