Oktoberfest is a two-week festival
held each year in Munich, Germany
during late September and early
October. It is attended by six
million people each year and has
inspired numerous similar events
using the name Oktoberfest in
Germany and around the world, many
of which were founded by German
immigrants or their descendants.
The
largest Oktoberfest outside of
Germany is in Blumenau, Santa
Catarina, Brazil (700,000+
visitors). Other cities claiming to
be the largest Oktoberfests outside
of Germany include Ontario,
Canada (700,000+ visitors),
Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
(500,000+ visitors,) and the Denver
Oktoberfest Denver, Colorado, United
States.
Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati USA is an
outdoor festival held in downtown
Zinzinnati, Ohio that showcases the
rich German heritage of Southwestern
Ohio, as well as tasty samples of
German-style music, food and beer.
First held in 1976, the event has
grown to be North America's largest
Oktoberfest with over 500,000 people
attending each year.
The
Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati tradition
began in 1976 as a block party near
historic Fountain Square to attract
visitors Downtown and to celebrate
Cincinnati's deep German heritage.
Since its humble beginnings, the
event has grown to be recognized as
North America's largest Oktoberfest,
attracting 500,000 annually.
