Event Information:
Knoxville is the home of the
Knoxville Marathon, the premier
event of the Knoxville Track Club (KTC),
a nonprofit located in Knoxville,
TN. The event is produced by the KTC,
with the help of the City of
Knoxville, the University of
Tennessee, and the title sponsor,
Covenant Health. The Knoxville Track
Club is among the top ten largest
track and field clubs in the U.S.
The KTC encourages life-long
physical well-being through running
and walking.
The
Inaugural event was held March 20,
2005. There are many great spots to
watch friends and family members as
they travel along the marathon
course. All events start on
the Clinch Avenue Bridge, so you
will be able to see your friend
start. Both the marathon and
half-marathon courses will come
through one block away (at the
corner of World's Fair Park Drive
and Clinch Ave) at mile 12.5.
Marathoners will then come back
through the start line at mile 25.5.
The start line is just half of a
mile from Neyland Stadium, so you
could see your loved one start and
finish easily. Located at the 4400
block of Kingston Pike, Western
Plaza has long been a hot spot for
full and half-marathon spectators.
This location is a great place to
see triumphant faces of participants
who have just conquered "The Hill"
at Noelton Drive. With live bands, a
water stop sponsored by Runners
Market, and rowdy fans, this
location is one of the favorites
among runners and spectators alike.
The course hits some of Knoxville' s
nicer running routes and city
landmarks. The finish in Neyland
Stadium is impressive. The
spectators are concentrated in only
a few locations and you 'll find
yourself running on your own quite a
bit.
