Event
Information:
The
state capital of California doesn't
like to be left out when it comes to
New Year's Eve, and holds its own
wide range of events and parties,
with the midnight fireworks drawing
crowds to the Tower Bridge area in
particular. Away from the firework
displays, there are a number of
other events taking place across the
city, catering for locals and
visitors alike.
NYE
sees the Noon Year's Eve Family
Festival taking place at the Crocker
Art Museum, from 10 in the morning
until 2pm. This free celebration all
ages will learn about New Year
festivities from around the world
through live music and dance
performances featuring the Golden
Turtle Lion Dance Association, Non
Stop Bhangra, Agua de Beber Capoeira,
and the City of Sacramento Pipe
Band. There will also be the famous
Best Sacramento New Years Party at
the Hilton Hotel Arden West and New
Year's Eve at Hyatt Regency
Sacramento.
The
oldest part of the town besides
Sutter's Fort is Old Sacramento,
which consists of cobbled streets
and many historic buildings, several
from the 1850s and 1860s. Buildings
have been preserved, restored or
reconstructed, and the district is
now a substantial tourist
attraction, with rides on
steam-hauled historic trains and
paddle steamers. There are several
major theatre venues for Sacramento.
The Sacramento Convention Center
Complex governs both the Community
Center Theatre and Memorial
Auditorium. The Wells Fargo Pavilion
is the most recent addition. It is
built atop the old Music Circus tent
foundations. Next to that is the
McClatchy Main stage, originally
built as a television studio, which
was renovated at the same time the
pavilion was built. It is the
smallest of the venues and provides
seating for only 300. The Sacramento
Ballet, Sacramento Philharmonic
Orchestra and the Sacramento Opera
perform at the Community Center
Theatre.
Sacramento has a growing food
culture that has been publicized in
many magazines such as Sactown and
Sacramento magazine's "Best of"
list. In , Sacramento started
the marketing campaign as "America's
Farm-to-Fork Capital" due to
Sacramento's many restaurants that
source their food locally from the
numerous surrounding farms.
Sacramento is also known for its
beverage culture, with keystone
events that include Cal Expo's Grape
and Gourmet, Sacramento Beer Week,
and Sacramento Cocktail Week.
Sacramento is also home to well
known cookbook authors, Biba
Caggiano of Biba's Restaurant and
Mai Pham of Lemongrass and Star
Ginger.
