Information:
The
Brazilian Grand Prix (Portuguese:
Grande Prêmio do Brasil) is a
Formula One championship race which
occurs at the Autódromo José Carlos
Pace in Interlagos, a district in
the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
In
March 2008, the mayor of São Paulo
announced that he had signed a new
deal with Bernie Ecclestone to
continue the holding of the
Brazilian Grand Prix. This deal
allows the Brazilian race to be on
the calendar until 2015. With this,
Interlagos is set for major
improvements in its pit and paddock
facilities.
Interlagos is an upper class
neighborhood located in the city of
São Paulo, Brazil. It includes the
Autódromo José Carlos Pace race
track, home of the Formula One
Brazilian Grand Prix. Its name
(adapted from Interlaken,
Switzerland) comes from the fact
that the region is located between
two large reservoirs, Guarapiranga
and Billings, built in the early
20th century to supply water and
electric power to the city. The
suburb of Interlagos is located in
the south region of São Paulo City
to the right edge of the
Guarapiranga reservoir.
The
Autódromo José Carlos Pace itself is
still commonly called Interlagos,
although this hasn't been its
official name since the 1970s. The
history of the Interlagos circuit
dates back to the 1920s, when the
city of São Paulo was undergoing a
process of fast urbanization.
