Event Information:
The
Ironman Regensburg is an annual
triathlon - sporting event over the
Ironman distance (3.86 km swim,
180.2 km cycling, 42,195 km run) in
Regensburg in the region of Upper
Palatinate in eastern Bavaria. The
Ironman Regensburg is part of the
Ironman World Series of World
Triathlon Corporation . The
participants have the opportunity to
qualify for a spot in the
championship of the Long distance in
Ironman Hawaii qualifying: There are
50 slots available - 8 for 42 for
professionals and amateurs).
This
contest was the first time on 1
August 2010 held. More than 1,800
athletes began here in 2010 on long
distance. In addition to the Ironman
Germany in Frankfurt am Main , will
be held at the European Championship
in the long distance triathlon and
the Ironman 70.3 Germany (mean
distance: 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike
and 21.1 mile run) in Wiesbaden ,
this is the third Ironman event in
Germany. The race starts with the
swim course in Lake Guggenberger at
Neutraubling and the following
circuit leads to a 2-circuit through
the district of Regensburg. The goal
after a marathon four times to the
continuous circular course is
located in the city of Regensburg.
Regensburg is a city in Bavaria,
Germany, located at the confluence
of the Danube and Regen rivers, at
the northernmost bend in the Danube.
To the east lies the Bavarian
Forest. Regensburg is the capital of
the Bavarian administrative region
Upper Palatinate. The large medieval
centre of the city is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. BMW operates an
automobile production plant in
Regensburg; the Regensburg BMW plant
produces 3-series and 1-series
vehicles. Other major employers are
Siemens with its subsidiary Osram
Opto-Semiconductors and Siemens VDO
(now Continental AG) with the
headquarters of its car component
business. Infineon, the former
Siemens semiconductor branch, has a
medium-sized factory in Regensburg.
Other well known companies such as
Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen, Toshiba
or Krones have built plants in or
near Regensburg. Amazon has also
located its German customer service
centre in Regensburg.
