Event Information:
Ironman WA is getting ready to roll
this weekend, and the start list
reads like a who’s who of Australian
iron distance racing. Foremost
amongst these must be Sydneysider
Pete Jacobs. His reputation is that
of the course’s strongest swimmer,
but after setting the third-fastest
marathon time ever on the Ford
Ironman World Championship course in
Hawaii at 2:41:05. many
are now looking to see just how fast
he can go at Busso.
Ironman Western Australia will
start at the Busselton jetty on
Sunday, December 4th, at 5.30am.
Professionals will enter the water
first followed by age groupers and
relay entrants from 5.45am. Race
leaders will exit the water from
6.15am and proceed to the Signal
Park transition area.
The finish chute will be located in
Queen Street, Busselton, with the
first athletes expected to cross the
line at about 1.30pm. The official
race finish time is 10.45pm. An
Ironman Triathlon is one of a series
of long-distance triathlon races
organized by the World Triathlon
Corporation (WTC) consisting of a
2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile
(180.25 km) bike and a marathon
(26.2 miles 42.195 km) run, raced in
that order and without a break. Most
Ironman events have a strict time
limit of 17 hours to complete the
race, where the Ironman race starts
at 7 AM, the mandatory swim cut off
for the 2.4 mile swim is 2 hours 20
minutes, the bike cut off time is
5:30 PM, and all finishers must
complete their marathon by midnight.
The time limit to complete the race
for Ironman Japan is 15 hours.
