Event Information:
The
NBA Finals is the championship
round of the –12 NBA season and
the conclusion of the season's
playoffs. The Eastern Conference
champion Miami Heat will face the
Western Conference champion Oklahoma
City Thunder under a 2–3–2 rotation.
The Thunder will have home-court
advantage in the Finals since they
had a better regular season record
than the Heat.
This
is the first time since 1998 that
the finals did not take place in
California or Texas, as the Thunder
eliminated the defending champion
Mavericks, Lakers, and Spurs in the
first three rounds of the playoffs.
This also marks the first Finals
since 1990 that did not feature
either a Phil Jackson-coached team
or a team from Texas. This marks the
first time that the Oklahoma City
Thunder will appear in the NBA
Finals since the franchise's
relocation from Seattle, Washington
in 2008, and their first Finals
appearance overall since 1996 as the
Seattle SuperSonics. It also marks
the Miami Heat's third appearance in
the NBA Finals since their
championship season of 2006 and
their first Finals appearance
against teams other than the Dallas
Mavericks.
The
NBA Finals are the championship series of the
–12 NBA season and the conclusion of the
season's playoffs. The champions of the Eastern
Conference (the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat) will
face the champions of the Western Conference (the
San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder) under a
2–3–2 rotation. The Western Conference champion will
have home-court advantage in the Finals since both
the Spurs and the Thunder had better regular season
records than either the Celtics or the Heat.
Because a lockout affected the –12 season, Game
1 of the Finals has been pushed back to June 12,
instead of its normal start date during the first
week of the month (if both conference finals end in
four or five games, then the Finals start date will
be moved to June 10).
