Chelmsford is the county town of
Essex, England, and the principal
settlement of the borough of
Chelmsford. It is located in the
London commuter belt.
The

northeast of Charing Cross in
London. Chelmsford is steeped in
history and was one of the original
settlements of Roman Great Britain.
Residents of Chelmsford are known as
'Chelmsfordians'. The town has a
population of around 188,500 and is
still growing. It is a modern, well
placed town that has a large number
of commuters who work in the City of
London financial sector. The town is
surrounded by many small villages
that retain their original charm
(examples of these are Danbury,
Writtle, Good and High Easter,
Roxwell, Mashbury, Chignal Smealy,
Broomfield, Great and Little Baddow,
Great and Little Waltham, Howe
Street, other notable examples
include Pleshey and Bicknacre).
Suburbs within Chelmsford have
retained their historical names
including: Moulsham, Widford and
Springfield, plus the newer Chelmer
Village.
The V
Festival is an annual music festival
held in Chelsmford during the
penultimate weekend in August.
Organised by Metropolis Music and
SJM Concerts, the event is held at
two parks simultaneously which share
the same bill; artists perform at
one location on Saturday and then
swap on Sunday. The sites are
located at Hylands Park in
Chelmsford and Weston Park in South
Staffordshire. Although
predominantly a rock music festival,
a wide range of musical genres are
accepted; in recent years pop acts
have become ever more common. This
year at V Festival their will be an
increase of police from 5,000 to
10,000 due to the risk from "PERPS".
The
"V" represents the Virgin Group,
with the event being sponsored by
Virgin Media and televised on
Channel 4 and 4 Music.
