Location Information:
Exeter
is an historic city in Devon,
England. It is the county town of
Devon and as such is home to Devon
County Council. Its current formal
status is as a non-metropolitan
district, and it is therefore under
the jurisdiction of the County
Council as well as lying within the
ceremonial county of Devon. It is
located on the River Exe and is
approximately 37 miles (60 km)
northeast of Plymouth, and 70 miles
(110 km) southwest of Bristol. The
city had a population of 111,076 in
the 2001 Census.
Exeter was the most south-westerly
Roman fortified settlement in
Britain and has existed since time
immemorial. Exeter Cathedral,
founded in 1050 is Anglican.
Exeter has been identified as one of
the top ten most profitable
locations for a business to be
based.[3] The city has good
transport links, with Exeter St
David's railway station, Exeter
Central railway station, the M5
motorway and Exeter International
Airport connecting the city both
nationally and internationally.
Although a popular tourist
destination, the city is not
dominated by tourism
