Description:
View of Corso Buenos Aires,
shopping district Milan city centre
Location Information:
Corso Buenos Aires is the biggest
shopping street in Milan, with
numerous shops and boutiques, and a
major communications artery,
connecting the historic city centre
of the city with the modern business
and industrial area of Milan to the
north. Unlike Via Montenapoleone,
which deals more with "haute
couture" and elegant "high fashion"
clothes, Corso Buenos Aires' shops
specify more into "ready-to-wear"
type clothes. Corso Buenos Aires is
Milan's main commercial and shopping
street, and contains over 350
stores, going from upscale fashion
labels to small and traditional
Milanese emporia. The street crosses
3 Milan Metro stations: Porta
Venezia MM, Lima MM and finally
Loreto MM. The street begins from
Piazzale Oberdan (Porta Venezia),
and ends up in Piazzale Loreto.
The street is built in a distinctive
late-18th and 19th century style,
containing numerous neo-classical
edifices. Corso Buenos Aires used to
be a traditional Milanese street,
with numerous shops selling local
products and merchandise, however
many of these have been replaced by
modern fashion outlets, and some of
the ancient buildings with modern,
high-rise blocks of flats. The
street is one of the busiest in
Milan, especially during the
Christmas period, when it sells most
of the city's decorations.
